ICRC “The Humanitarian Situation in Afghanistan is Dire and 24 Million People Need Help”

By publishing a newsletter, the International Red Cross Federation announced the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and while emphasizing the adoption of a new approach in facing this difficult situation, said that more than 24 million citizens of this country need assistance.
In this report, in addition to the lack of funds in the aid process, the extensive and interconnected needs of more than 24 million people are highlighted and things like the long-term effects of decades of war and conflict, the effects of climate change and severe economic hardship are mentioned as factors of the formation of these needs. Also, referring to the vastness of resources in the country and the existence of the necessary capacities, this organization has considered it important to take necessary measures and prevent effective solutions in order to eliminate the root of these needs.
At the same time, a large number of citizens who struggle with extreme poverty and put themselves on fire to cover their living expenses in any possible way, claim that they have not received any help so far. On the other hand, there have always been complaints that justice is not observed in the process of identifying the beneficiaries and distributing aid, and the aid is distributed to their dependents and relatives by village elders, representatives of alleys and regions, and other people involved in the process, and there are people among those who receive aid that they have a good source of income and don’t deserve help.
Recently, the World Food Program announced the reduction of food aid of this organization in Afghanistan due to lack of sufficient funds and said that in June of this year, only 500,000 citizens who are directly dependent on aid for survival will receive food packages.
However, the caretaker government officials also want to continue sending aid from international organizations and the world community to Afghanistan in order to reduce the current extreme poverty.
