Zabihullah Mujahid Called Richard Bennett’s New Report Biased

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of Afghanistan’s caretaker government, considered the latest report of Richard Bennett, the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, as biased.

The caretaker government’s spokesperson, in response to the report presented by Richard Bennett, said that this report is not important to them and is worthless.

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights affairs in Afghanistan, in the latest report he prepared on the human rights situation in Afghanistan and published by the United Nations, has recorded many cases of human rights violations in Afghanistan.

One of the most important issues mentioned in the report is the sexual violence against women detained in Afghanistan, which Mr. Bennett expressed serious concern about. In a part of this report, it is mentioned about sexual violence against women who were arrested in January of this year due to issues related to clothing and hijab.

In this report, the detained women are quoted as saying that when they were taken to the police station, they were beaten, verbally abused, and even sexually assaulted.

Another detained woman was quoted as saying that she was beaten and her head was hit against the wall during questioning. In addition, they tore her hijab and touched her private parts.

Mr. Bennett has also expressed concern that many cases of rape and sexual violence may go unreported and remain hidden due to the existence of cultural stereotypes and the fear of accusations and social labels.

He also said that high levels of gender-based violence were common during the republican regime, but the situation has worsened under the current regime. Mr. Bennett has also raised serious concerns about the high level of violence against women and girls, including family violence and sexual partner violence, and it has been emphasized that women’s access to justice comes with restrictions on their freedoms, as well as preventing the activities of female judges and lawyers weakens more than before.

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights affairs in Afghanistan has continued to address the issue of ethnic and religious minorities and has reported that ethnic, religious and linguistic groups face discrimination, exclusion and isolation. He said that religious minorities, including Shiites, Hazaras and Sufi groups, are facing threats and violence and are also being attacked by ISIS. Mr. Bennett has expressed concern that the promotion of anti-Pashtun sentiments may increase and lead to increased tension and mistrust in the Afghan society.

It should be remembered that since the middle of this year, Richard Bennett’s entry to Afghanistan has been banned due to what was said to be exaggerating small issues and sending false information to international institutions.
