WFP: “Four Million Women and Children in Afghanistan Suffer from Acute Malnutrition”

The World Food Program (WFP) says that in the current year of 2024, about four million Afghan women and children will suffer from severe malnutrition. Among them, only 2.3 million pregnant women are malnourished.
According to a report published by this institution, about 40% of pregnant and lactating women and 45% of children under 5 in Punjab district of Bamyan province suffer from malnutrition.
This organization has reported that malnutrition increases the risk of death for children with severe and moderate malnutrition, compared to children who had a good diet, up to three times, and the possibility of complications during childbirth for pregnant women.
The World Food Program wrote on its X page, that this organization is only able to provide emergency food packages for seven million people, while currently 16 million Afghan citizens need food aid.
According to this organization, they have been able to deliver aid packages to more than 13 thousand lactating and pregnant mothers affected by acute malnutrition, and in addition, in six months, they have saved nutrients that will be enough for about 31 thousand children.
With the political developments in the country and the economic system being affected, the level of poverty in Afghanistan has greatly increased and millions of the country’s citizens are in dire need of receiving food aid.
