The thrilling and highly anticipated final match of the Asian Youth Games futsal tournament — between Afghanistan U-17 and Iran U-17 teams — ended with a historic 2–1 victory for Behrooz Jafari’s young Afghan squad.
The match, which had been preceded by an extensive psychological campaign by Iranian media, ultimately saw Afghanistan’s youth futsal team triumph with determination and pride.
Team captain “Spiderman” Abbas Haidari and the talented star Ali Reza Ahmadi scored the two decisive goals that led Afghanistan to glory.
With their remarkable and exemplary performance, Afghanistan’s young futsal stars brought Asia’s top futsal power to its knees and deservedly claimed the gold medal of the Bahrain Asian Youth Games.
In the final moments, however, the Iranian side — after two days of desperate attempts to influence the situation in their favor — turned to aggression and unsportsmanlike behavior. They deliberately injured Afghanistan’s goalkeeper and clashed with the Afghan coaching staff. Even some Iranian spectators reportedly attacked Afghan supporters present in the arena.
We hope that the tournament’s organizing authorities will take these incidents seriously and apply the necessary disciplinary and punitive measures. Likewise, it is expected that the Afghanistan Football Federation and the National Olympic Committee will formally follow up the case with evidence and documentation to ensure that such unethical behavior by the Iranian side is not repeated in the future.
This historic triumph by Afghanistan’s “Futsal Princes” will remain etched in the memory of millions of Afghans for generations, while Iran’s disgraceful conduct will be remembered as a dark stain in that country’s sporting history.
