The Drilling of 18 Oil Wells Begins in Northern Afghanistan

The BBC, citing the F-China Oil and Gas Company, reported that the company has begun drilling 18 new oil wells in the Amu Darya area in northern Afghanistan.

This joint Afghan-Chinese company stated that the drilling is underway in the Qashqari, Aq Darya of Sar-e-Pul, and Zamarudsai of Jawzjan provinces, and it is expected to be completed by the end of the current year.

The company received its working license in 2023 to extract oil from an area covering 4,500 square kilometers in the Amu Darya Basin and started its operations based on this license.

According to the agreement, 1,000 tons of oil are expected to be extracted daily from these wells, with production capacity gradually increasing to 20,000 tons per day.

Since the establishment of the caretaker government in Afghanistan, China has shown increased interest in investing in the country, pouring millions of dollars into economic, mining, oil, and gas projects. Given the current political situation, it is expected that China’s role in economic projects in Afghanistan will become even more prominent and widespread in the coming years.

Meanwhile, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, stated during a meeting with a number of Russian and Afghan investors that there are now better opportunities for investment in various sectors in Afghanistan.

Mullah Baradar emphasized that Afghanistan is rich in natural resources and presents opportunities for investment, adding that they have always encouraged domestic and foreign investors to invest in different sectors.
