Once Again, Emphasis on the Ban of Women Working in NGOs

Two years after issuing the decree banning women from working in National and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the enforcement of this prohibition has been reiterated.

The Ministry of Economy under the caretaker government has issued an official letter to all NGOs, instructing them to strictly adhere to this directive.

In the published letter, the ministry has warned that organizations violating the directive by employing women will have their activities halted, and their licenses revoked.

This order comes at a time when some NGOs, particularly in health and education-focused projects, rely on female employees to carry out their activities.

Previously, in January 2022, the Ministry of Economy issued an official letter instructing all National and international NGOs to refrain from hiring female staff.

Apparently, following widespread global reactions, the decree was somewhat disregarded, and its implementation was not taken seriously. However, after two years, the Ministry of Economy is now pursuing its enforcement with greater determination.

Nevertheless, there is no doubt that a complete ban on women working in NGOs will pose serious challenges to the implementation and execution of humanitarian projects. This is because female employees are the ones capable of working with female beneficiaries in various social fields. Thus, banning women from work essentially means halting all projects whose beneficiaries are women.
