Lions of Khorasan Earn a Valuable Draw Against Iran

Afghanistan’s national futsal team secured a valuable draw against Iran in their second match of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia.

This afternoon, the Lions of Khorasan faced the Asian champions in one of the most intense and thrilling matches of the tournament, ending the game with a 2–2 draw.

Afghanistan’s goals were scored by Sayed Mojtaba Hossaini and Captain Mahdi Nawruzi. Iran opened the scoring in the first half, but coach Majid Mortazai’s players equalized through a goal by Sayed Mojtaba Hossaini, bringing the half to a 1–1 finish. In the second half, Iran once again took the lead, but the Afghan players fought back and leveled the score once more.

The Afghanistan national futsal team delivered an impressive performance, and with a bit more precision in finishing, they could have converted several great opportunities and even won the match by a margin.

With this result, Afghanistan now has four points, and following Tajikistan’s 7–1 loss to Morocco, Afghanistan stands in second place in Group B due to goal difference.

In their opening match, Afghanistan had defeated Tajikistan 9–5 to secure three valuable points. The Lions of Khorasan will play their final group stage match against Morocco on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
