Increasing the Possibility of Implementing a Large Solar Power Project in Bamyan

The possibility that the large solar power project with a capacity of 20 megawatts will be implemented by the Chinese government in center of Bamyan province has increased.

This possibility increases when, according to the press office of Bamyan governor, Mullah Abdul Latif Mansour, Acting Minister of Energy and Water of Afghanistan, along with Mr. Joshang, the Ambassador of Chinese government in Kabul, traveled to Bamyan Province and visited Azhdar region, which is considered for the implementation of the mentioned project.

Mawlawi Abdulla Sarhadi, the governor of Bamyan, in a meeting with the Chinese ambassador and the acting minister of energy and water, while calling for the continuation of friendly and strategic relations between China and Afghanistan, talked on demands of Bamyan people to implement infrastructure projects, especially the start and completion of the 20 megawatt electricity project.

At the same time, the Acting Minister of Energy and Water of the country asked the ambassador of China to spend more efforts in order to start the mentioned project in Bamyan as soon as possible.

Mr. Joshang, the ambassador of China in Afghanistan, besides announcing the continuation of his country’s cooperation with Afghanistan, especially with Bamyan province, added that he has consulted with the officials and authorities of his country regarding the 20 megawatt solar power project and is trying to start and complete it as soon as possible.

The solar power project with a capacity of 20 megawatts of electricity, which is to be implemented in Bamyan from China’s grants, will be considered the largest power project in this province if implemented. Previously, the only solar power project with a capacity of only one megawatt of electricity was funded and put into operation by New Zealand, which currently provides the most energy needed in the center of Bamyan and government offices.
