The construction of the 120-bed Imam Khomaini Specialized Hospital in Bamyan has been completed. The press office of Bamyan province announced in a statement that this hospital was built with a budget of 42 million U.S. dollars by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Saboor Farzan Saighani, the spokesperson for the governor of Bamyan, stated that the operational costs and medical equipment for this hospital amount to approximately 42 million dollars. He added that once operational, the hospital will provide advanced and specialized healthcare services to the people of Bamyan and neighboring provinces.
According to Mr. Saighani, the hospital will offer services including heart surgery and transplantation, kidney treatment, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, general internal medicine, pediatrics, maternity care, and intensive care.
Meanwhile, some time ago, the Iranian ambassador to Kabul, during a visit to Bamyan, met with the leadership of the local government and announced the completion of the hospital’s construction. He also requested cooperation from Bamyan’s local government to facilitate its inauguration.
Mawlawi Abdullah Sarhadi, the governor of Bamyan, welcomed the implementation of development and infrastructure projects in the province by governments and organizations. He emphasized that Bamyan is one of the underprivileged provinces that has suffered from neglect and a lack of attention from the central government and some international donors over the past two decades. However, the current leadership of Bamyan’s local government is striving to attract support and assistance from organizations and governments to address the problems and needs of the people.
Therefore, it appears that the obstacles to the hospital’s opening have been resolved, and this health center is expected to be inaugurated soon.
It is worth mentioning that the construction of Imam Khomaini Hospital began during the tenure of Dr. Habiba Sarabi as the governor of Bamyan. However, due to political reasons and opposition from governors of the previous government, the progress of the project was slow.
Bamyan is considered one of the most underdeveloped and least developed provinces, facing significant challenges in providing healthcare services. Currently, there is only one functioning hospital in the province, which is funded and managed by the Aga Khan Development Network. Despite being built according to modern standards and equipped with good facilities, there have been numerous complaints and criticisms regarding the lack of essential departments, the quality of healthcare services, and the behavior of the hospital staff towards patients and citizens.
