Broadcasting activities of “Noor” and “Baria” TVs were stopped. The Media Complaints and Violations Commission announced this news in a press conference on Tuesday April 16, 2024 and said that this decision was made due to not observing the principles of journalism and ignoring national and Islamic values. Based on the decision of this commission, the mentioned media are not allowed to publish until the court is held and the official verdict is issued. The statement of the Media Complaints and Violations Commission states that the people who have the license of these television channels regularly destroy the “Islamic Emirate” government.
Khabib Ghafran, the spokesman of the Ministry of Information and Culture, informed about the submission of the case of these two media to the court and added that this decision was made by the Commission for Handling Media Complaints and Violations in consideration of the Public Media Law.
Meanwhile, Wasim Ahmed Adeeb, the news manager of Baria Private TV, in a conversation with the media, considered the suspension of the activities of these media to be based on political motives and said that this TV may have faced restrictions because it is the voice of the deprived and oppressed. He emphasizes that he cannot confirm the government’s claim of not respecting journalistic principles and Islamic values, as well as ignoring repeated warnings, and adds that Baria TV obeys all the orders sent by the government to the media in order to respect Islamic principles and values and public interest.
The Afghan Journalists Center, by publishing a statement, while calling the suspension of broadcasts of Noor and Baria private television channels against the law of public media and considering it to impose more restrictions on the country’s free media, demanded the cancellation of this decision and the resumption of broadcasts of these media.
It should be noted that the owner of Baria private television is Habib al-Rahman Hekmatyar, the son of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, and Noor Private TV is also owned by Salahuddin Rabbani.
