AFJC Announced the Winners of Afghanistan Journalist of the Year Award

Afghanistan Journalists Center, in a newsletter published today, April 6, 2024, announced the names of the winners of the 11th annual award of the “Reporter of the Year” in Afghanistan in 2023.
Based on this newsletter, the jury of this competitive program gave the most points to five Afghan journalists, including Mitra Majidi, Faridullah Mohammadi and Nasir Ahmad Salehi from TOLO News, Mohammad Tahir Ahmadi from Rokhshana and Mohammad Amin Kavah from Hasht-e Sobh newspaper. The jury considered them jointly worthy of receiving the Afghanistan Reporter of the Year award in 1402.
A large number of Afghan journalists, representatives of a number of media and international organizations supporting the media and journalists and organizations defending freedom of expression participated in the award ceremony, which was held online and in person.
In the newsletter, Faisal Karimi, on behalf of the jury committee of this program, said that this year, despite the significant reduction of media and journalists and the existing restrictions in the country, more than 50 national and local media from different provinces of Afghanistan, as well as international media specifically for Afghanistan, had nominated their reports and media works.
Mr. Karimi also said: “According to the results of the evaluation of the jury, Mitra Majidi’s report from TOLO News about child labor in Kabul, Faridullah Mohammadi’s exclusive interview from TOLO News with Mullah Muhammad Yaqub, the Minister of Defense of the Caretaker Government, Nasir Ahmad Salehi’s report from TOLO News about water scarcity crisis and the consequences of climate change in Farah Province, Tahir Ahmadi’s report from Rokhshanah online publication about the situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan and Mohammad Amin Kavah’s investigative report from Hasht-e Sobh newspaper about the story of the owner of Azizi Bank and one of the citizens got more points. ”
The Afghanistan Reporter of the Year Award was established after the 27th of Hoot was named as National Journalist’s Day, and since then, it has been awarded to journalists of various media every year.
According to the statistics presented, during the last 10 years, 17 journalists from different media such as BBC Afghanistan, Ariana News TV, Hasht-e Sobh newspaper, Etilaat Roz newspaper, Tolo News, AFP, Pajhwok News Agency, Paik Investigative Journalism Center, Afghanistan International TV and Kelid Radio has won this award and among them, 5 of the winners were female journalists.
