The political advisor to Pakistan’s Prime Minister recently stated that Pakistan has the right to carry out operations against the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) inside Afghanistan.
Following recent Pakistani attacks inside Afghan territory, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of several civilians, and subsequent operations by Afghan forces in border areas, Rana Sanaullah, the political advisor to Pakistan’s Prime Minister, declared that Pakistan has the right to conduct operations against the TTP on Afghan territory.
In a conversation with the media, he emphasized the continuation of military operations against terrorists and added that Pakistan has no hesitation in conducting such operations on its own soil.
The advisor further stated that, under international law, if a country is threatened or an attack is organized from the territory of another country, the threatened nation has the right to conduct operations in the other country to protect itself.
It is noteworthy that Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, previously described airstrikes by Pakistan’s military in Paktia Province as a decisive response to the TTP and referred to Pakistan’s adversaries as extremists. He also claimed that foreign hands are behind the TTP.
In the past, Pakistan has repeatedly accused Afghanistan of harboring terrorists and warned the interim Afghan government.
Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have soured following an escalation in TTP operations in Pakistan. Officials from both countries have exchanged sharp statements.
The interim Afghan government has denied Pakistani officials’ claims regarding the presence of Pakistani terrorists on Afghan soil and asserted that Afghanistan’s territory will not be used as a platform for threats against any country.
