Two workers at a coal mine in Sayghan District of Bamyan Province, lost their lives due to gas poisoning.
The press office of Bamyan governor told Sattagydia that the incident occurred around 12 p.m. yesterday, on December 7, 2024, in Khwaja Ganj village of Sayghan District. Inside the coal mine, the two miners were overcome by gas and suffocated, resulting in their deaths.
The spokesperson for the Governor of Bamyan stated that after the incident, local officials, including Mawlawi Abdullah Sarhadi, the Governor of Bamyan, accompanied by the head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the provincial police headquarter, visited the district. They aimed to express condolences to the victims’ families, investigate the cause of the incident, and take necessary measures.
One of the deceased was a resident of Khwaja Ganj village in Sayghan, while the other was from the Bamyan city center. The body of the latter was transported by ambulance to his hometown.
The Governor of Bamyan has instructed civilian, security, and intelligence officials in Sayghan to strictly and comprehensively monitor the coal mining operations in the area. He emphasized that no one should be allowed to conduct unprofessional mining activities.
Unregulated and reckless mining practices in Afghanistan have frequently led to severe and irreparable losses and fatalities among miners.
