Fears and Hopes Around the Third Doha Meeting on Afghanistan

The 3rd specialized meeting of the United Nations regarding Afghanistan, which is scheduled to be held at the end of this month in Doha, the capital of Qatar, has become highly controversial and has attracted the attention of political and social groups and circles.

The turning point of this summit, however, mostly revolves around two axes; first of all, this time a delegation from the caretaker government of Afghanistan will participate in it, and more importantly, political parties and members of the previous deposed government, as well as representatives of women and civil society of Afghanistan, are not invited. Therefore, the United Nations will host this meeting with the participation of representatives from countries of the world and the region and the caretaker government delegation.

The mentioned topics have provoked a wide range of positive and negative reactions inside and outside the country. The presence of the representatives of the caretaker government indicates that their demands to participate in the meeting have been fulfilled by the United Nations and they have been convinced. This action means that the international community, in continuation of their previous policies, is seeking more interaction with the caretaker government, and for this reason, by leaving aside other parties with a position on Afghanistan issues, they intend to directly and face-to-face with delegation from inside Afghanistan to enter into negotiations to achieve a higher level of interaction and relations.

Although this is not far from the possibility and has made some people worried about the continuation of a single group government and its recognition, on the other hand, it may have positive and constructive consequences for Afghanistan.

Considering that the continuation of the war is not in the interest of Afghanistan and brings more destruction and changing the government with war and violence and using the imposed system with the leverage of foreign pressure will never bring the desired result, the expansion of relations and logical and constructive interaction will create a bright future for Afghanistan with the world in compliance with the conditions.

At the same time, even if the international community increases the level of interaction and relations with the caretaker government of Afghanistan to the highest possible level, it alone will not be able to guarantee the future stability of Afghanistan and prevent the increase of war and violence, because considering the bitter historical experiences, we find that Afghanistan needs more interaction and internal stability. The basic need of Afghanistan at the moment is that the national legitimacy of the caretaker government increases and all the residents of this land participate in the national trends.

One of the most important elements that can help the current government in achieving comprehensive stability is providing and guaranteeing everyone’s participation in the government body. It is logical to say that the officials of the previous corrupt government and the unworthy politicians of the past, who failed the test of the Afghan nation and have no place among the people, have lost the right to participate in the power and politics of Afghanistan and are not acceptable to the people of Afghanistan, but without a doubt, different strata Afghan people have many elites and experts who can work in high levels of government and governance. Increasing the political participation of all Afghan citizens will undoubtedly play a major role in increasing the internal legitimacy of the current government.

Another fear and concern that a large number of citizens of the country may be involved with is that the United Nations and Western countries, who are actually dictating issues to this international organization, will forget the interests of the Afghan people and only seek to secure their own interests. and receive security guarantees. There is no doubt that the political, economic, social and cultural situation of Afghanistan and the hunger crisis that Afghanistan is currently facing are of no importance to other countries. What is important is their national interests, which, if they are realized, will push other issues to the sidelines, and nothing will be left as a middle-of-the-road slogan.

In any case, there is hope that the third Doha meeting can bring bright days for Afghanistan, so that the current situation of this country will move towards improvement in every aspect.
