In continuation of tensions between Afghanistan and its neighboring countries, officials of Iran and Pakistan once again spoke of their harsh and tense stance towards the country.
Kyomars Haidari, the commander of the ground forces of Iranian army, has said that in the field of blocking the border strip between Iran and Afghanistan, others cannot assign tasks to them. Emphasizing on blocking the borders, he called this work “a common thing” in all countries.
The commander of the ground forces of Iranian army said on Saturday that blocking the border strip between Iran and Afghanistan is one of the most important national plans of that country, which is implemented in the northeastern regions of Iran. According to him, the fencing has been done in the border strip and the process of making ground and road will start later.
It seems that these statements were made in response to the statements of caretaker government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, who previously said that the plan to block the border should be implemented with an agreement between the two countries.
On the other hand, in the continuation of the historical debate and dispute over the Durand Line – the border strip between Pakistan and Afghanistan – this issue has once again been raised between two countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has taken a strong position against the statements of Abbas Stanekzai, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of caretaker government regarding the unofficial border between two countries and called it a “false and self-proclaimed claim”. This organization added that the passage of people and passengers and trade of goods on the border of two countries is based on the criteria of the countries’ relations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has also said: “Any false and imaginary claim about the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan cannot change the facts of geography, history and international law.”
Recently, Abbas Stanekzai, the political deputy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the de facto government, said in a gathering in Logar province that they have never officially recognized the Durand Line, and crossing this line with a visa or passport is never acceptable. Stanekzai also said that no one can separate the people from both sides of Durand.
Anwar Ul Haq Kakar, the interim Prime Minister of Pakistan, also said in an interview with the Pakistani media that the United Nations and 206 countries have accepted that this is an international border, and despite that, I am not interested in this matter, whether the Afghans say anything about it or not.
The issue of the Durand Line is one of the controversial issues between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which, according to some experts, is the main reason for political interventions and efforts to make the government under the command of that country more efficient in Afghanistan.
However, the tension between two countries is not limited to this issue. For a long time now, with the increase in insecurity and destructive activities of the Pakistani Taliban group, the authorities of this country have always accused Afghanistan of harboring and supporting terrorists and demanded that Kabul act decisively in this direction.
